While looking at these snippets from the shows I worked on, I realized how much I miss working with the professional teams who were so passionate about what they do.
Yes, film industry is one of the most vulnerable industries that got hit directly and tremendously by the pandemic since 1.5 years ago. It was especially difficult in Malaysia, where ‘arts’ has never been under the main spotlights and has never gotten enough or rather proper support though it should have.
We haven’t spoken much about it because other sectors might be seen as the “more important” ones that affect our economy and our lives more visibly but -
there are tons of directors, musicians, performers, artistes, film crews, designers, cinematographers, writers, composers, stylists, actors especially the seniors, and the list goes on, you name it, who have been jobless for the longest time ever. Some had no choice but to leave their professions behind and started working on something else that could help to pay the bills and feed the family.
Our industry, is the industry that people admire and idolize at good times but sad to say, the last to be remembered at bad times.
I’m lucky enough to able to support myself and my family, and even contributed a tiny bit to the people in my country during this hard time, but I have a bad heartache at the same time knowing many people suffer and I couldn’t help more.
All these nonsense have to stop.
We want Malaysia to recover, but not deteriorate further to a point where… recovery seems impractical, impossible. Please.
