本屆奧斯卡議題，始於性別，但跨出了兩性，帶出了更包容、更多元的思維。電影最佳歌曲入圍【This Is Me】雖未獲獎，但琪雅拉帶來全場最動人高潮的表演，背後多元族群的合唱舞群更別具意義；而競爭激烈的最佳外語片最後由智利電影《不思議女人》勝出，這部講述變性人受到歧視的電影是由跨性別演員Daniela Vega主演，演員本人也以「奧斯卡首位跨性別引言人」之姿上台為同志愛情電影《以你的名字呼喚我》的歌曲【Mystery of Love】引言。
