如果說人生並非一條直線前進，那麼這位柬埔寨的甜甜圈大王就是最好的例子。

因為在BBC上看見他的故事，引發我讀他自傳的好奇心。他的自傳，其實更像是一篇長篇報導，2小時就讀完了。

窮小子成功追上富家女
成為難民逃到美國加州
從加油站員到甜甜圈學徒
大膽接收一間間的本地甜甜圈店
成為幫助柬埔寨難民在美國落地的 Uncle Ted
第一次到賭城以及逐漸上癮
數度成為和尚又再犯的過程
回到柬埔寨重新來過
進入政治圈卻丟了婚姻
選舉散盡家產再度以100美元去美國
接收當年還是難民時的牧師幫助
回到柬埔寨當窮人們的顧問
因緣際會進入房地產又成為富翁
（寫完這些我已經昏了 😅)

其實報導中已經把主要的故事情節都寫出來了。書裡面多出來的，一個是關於柬埔寨近代的歷史和紅色高棉的悲劇，從一個柬埔寨人的口中描述出來，格外令人驚心動魄。另一個就是他描述深陷賭癮的人的心境。包括那個毫無抗拒能力的感覺，那個一次又一次跟家人發誓不再犯的過程，以及在賭城躲避妻小找尋的羞恥感。他為這紀錄片受訪時，說到回加州拍攝讓他非常的痛苦（家人與過去的朋友和他保持距離）。但最後這趟旅程，似乎也成為他與過去和好的療癒之旅。

在他這個幾度浮沉的人生當中，如果說要看到什麼不變的特質，我想，應該就是他抓住每個學習的機會。一般人可能會被一些外在的狀況影響學習的動力，包括覺得自己出生不好，覺得多做多學看不到好處，覺得請求別人幫忙很丟臉，以及擔心被拒絕。但他從來不因為這些事情而停止自己的腳步。他在書中說道：

“One of my great gifts in life, I believe, is that I don’t mind looking foolish.... It also serves as an important lesson: improving yourself is always worthwhile, even if the benefits are not clear to you in the moment”

（我相信，在我人生中最棒的天賦之一，就是不會害怕看起來很愚蠢....我的經驗也讓我學習到一個很重要的功課-- 持續精進自己永遠是最好的投資，即便當下看不到很明確的回報）

After 27 years of 'bestfriendship' later, thank you for still reminding me how sweet you are to me!

You ordered coconut water @cocolocosg for me even before i had the chance to do it because you googled that pregnant woman can start drinking at 34 weeks.

You got me a 'push gift' before my husband did (haha) because you didnt want me to feel left out when everyone was buying things for my baby. And you got me the exact pair of Gentle Monster that I've been eyeing for a long time! Must be telepathy because you didnt even know this was the pair i liked!

Thank you for showering me with all these gifts! Most importantly, thank you for always being here, through my ups and downs, our happy times, fights and quarrels, my relationships, transformation, career change and status change.

We've grown so much through these precious 27 years. We are so different in so many ways, and there were years that were more challenging and testing on our friendship that others. But thank you for not giving up on me, and for putting your pride aside for us, for accepting my stubbornness and embracing our differences.

I'm so proud of where we are now and I'm so proud of you, so so proud in everyway. U know what i mean.

I'm grateful to have you in my life. And yes, please be there when i need a drink and some sanity in the next leg of my journey. Be there for my daughter when she needs to run away from home and b*tch about her mother. Be there always bcos i too, donut know what I'd do without you. I love you bestie @jochieng.

I have bought every day, in Lawson Kouign-Amann. Today, I was lucky. The stock was last. However, the mystery has occurred. I went to Lawson again. Strange. The stock last. This is deja vu? I was expected to Mister Donut of cream brulee. This is because a promotional video on Twitter was great. However, it was very soft. I made a caramelized in the Milky France. It was Yummy as gifts from heaven.
