Recently, I was given the opportunity to speak at TEDx talk and my topic, which also happens to be my daily mantra, was, “SAY YES, THINK LATER.”
All my life, I’ve always been a YES person.
Now of course, even though saying yes is of tremendous value, it doesn’t mean that you have to say YES to absolutely everything, but I say YES to things which could potentially help me to advance in life as well as build and shape my character.
I shared with the audience how overcoming the fear of rejection and failure has opened up so many doors of opportunity for me.
When you say YES, the possibilities are endless!
You get to learn more about yourself, the world, your surroundings and the chance to make unexpected discoveries.
If I hadn’t said yes to modelling, I wouldn’t know that I actually suck at it and that I am not model material.
Had I not joined Miss World Malaysia twice, it could potentially have been a big missed opportunity!
Had I not said YES to joining The Amazing Race Asia (after saying NO thrice), I wouldn’t know how strong I was and how far I could push myself until I reach the finish line!
Had I not said YES to being part of Zarrel, I wouldn’t know how it feels like to be rejected countless times and be able to rise above it all.
In a nutshell, saying YES to opportunities and ideas has sent my life into a brand new direction.
I’ve never regretted every single YES. Even if it didn’t work out, I’ve always learned from it. I mean what’s the worst that could happen to you?
It’s not like you’d go broke or lose a limb.
The worst that could happen is you’ll never gain, but you will never lose by trying.
Saying NO limits you in many ways. Not only do you not grow, you also don’t experience more of what the world has to offer.
Next time, if someone offers you an amazing opportunity but you are not sure you can do it, say YES then learn how to do it later! - Richard Branson

P/s: To my mum and friends who came to support me, thank you for always being there for me especially at times like that when I almost sh*t in my pants before my turn to speak on stage! ❤️
