Ơ, tình hình dịch bệnh thế này nên đi học năm nay hay đợi năm sau? Chị hay nhận được inbox của Schofan nhà mình tâm sự như vầy. Học bổng không phải lúc nào dễ dàng apply thành công, mà có sức khoẻ thì mới học tập được. Hmm vậy thì đi hay là ở? Chị share với mọi người bài viết của anh Hồ Quốc Tuấn, giảng viên tại University of Bristol, Anh để tìm hiểu rõ hơn hen. Những chia sẻ này chủ yếu apply cho ngành Business, Econ, Management, Accounting, Finance, nhưng chắc cũng apply cho mấy ngành social sciences khác, cả nhà đọc xem sao nhé.

Trả lời dài dòng: Tui sẽ vẽ ra tình thế thật sự, lợi thế và bất lợi như bên dưới rồi tùy bà con tính.

Thực tế:

🍈1. Không có học online suốt, thiếu tương tác

Cái myth học online suốt là sai. Đúng là học kỳ 1 đa số trường lecture sẽ online, nhưng mà nhiều thứ khác sẽ cố gắng kết hợp như học offline và online face to face group nhỏ.

Đại ca Cambridge kêu dạy lectures online cả năm làm dân tình hoảng. Đại ca đó dạy học chủ yếu là 1-1, 1-2, 1-5 tutorials, lectures của đại ca đó không quan trọng lắm. Online hay không chả mấy ảnh hưởng. Quan trọng là face to face tutorial session chạy như thường.

Như trường tui và nhiều trường khác trong Russell Group: blended learning nghĩa là online lecture + 1 đống one-to-one meetings online hoặc face to face small group tutorials.

Bạn vô học lecture bình thường thì cũng vô cái giảng đường mấy trăm SV bự như rạp hát, ngồi nghe giảng viên hát xong rồi về.

Năm bình thường bạn học môn của tui (khoảng 200 sinh viên Msc học môn Financial Markets) thì tui ngoài việc hát xong 10 tiếng lecture/học kỳ thì chỉ có 2 tiếng office hours/tuần, gặp giỏi lắm face to face 10 bạn/tuần (mà mấy đứa đó quanh đi quẩn lại, tuần nào nó cũng book meetings hết). Trong lớp lecture thì tui giành ra 10 phút giải đáp câu hỏi. Túm lại cơ hội face to face trong thời điểm bình thường là rất thấp, nhất là với những bạn rụt rè.

Còn lại là teaching assistant tui gặp, dạy tutorials và giải đáp.

Năm nay thì lại khác. Sau khi bạn học online lecture, bạn book tui được nhiều hơn, tương tác nhiều hơn qua các online và offline sessions. Group nhỏ hơn (tui cực hơn, tội lắm).

Quan trọng là sếp tui cũng phải làm vậy. Ngày thường các bạn muốn được top prof như vậy cho book face to face là vô cùng khó (đa số là trợ giảng hold office hours). Năm nay ai cũng phải mở online / offline face to face sessions.

Cho nên thì sự thật thì cơ hội tương tác của giảng viên với SV quốc tế sẽ phần lớn là tăng, không giảm.

🍓 2. Career & Support Services tốt hơn

Các services này được tăng cường hỗ trợ bạn tận răng so với các năm trước vì sợ dân tình complain là bỏ nhiều tiền mà vô toàn bị học online. Trường cũng muốn các bạn ra có việc làm.

🍒3. Hoạt động ngoại khóa vẫn diễn ra bình thường

1 đứa tutee của tui phải thi lại tháng 8 mà giờ đá banh bị gãy chân, đang hỏi xin dời thi. 😅

Ở đây chúng ta không bàn SV học dở thì thích đá banh hay vì thích đá banh nên học dở. Đó là research question yêu thích của đồng nghiệp tui 10 năm nay.

Hoạt động ngoại khóa là hơi thở của students. Chúng nó thà chết vì virus chứ không chịu nằm yên đâu. Ai cũng có một thời tuổi trẻ nông nổi 😅😎

CHỐT LẠI

🚙Lợi thế của đi học năm nay:

- Được có cơ hội interact nhiều hơn với giảng viên, nhất là top prof (nghịch lý nó vậy).

- Dự kiến SV quốc tế đi học sẽ giảm (nhiều, ít tùy trường), và vì số đi học sẽ ít đi nên số ra tranh việc làm cũng ít hơn.

- Nhập học tháng 9/2020, tốt nghiệp 2021 sẽ được ở lại 2 năm kiếm việc (SV tốt nghiệp 2020 không có cái may mắn đó).

- Nếu bạn có offer hoặc offer + học bổng bán phần/toàn phần, thì không đảm bảo được defer. Năm sau rất nhiều người delay không nộp hồ sơ, không đi học năm nay sẽ cùng apply giành chỗ với bạn. Một số trường tui biết (bao gồm trường tui) hiện tại không cho delay hầu hết các offer.

🚗Bất lợi:

- Ai muốn sang đây vừa đi làm thêm để cover chi phí thì phải suy nghĩ lại.

Nước Anh đang đi vào một cuộc khủng hoảng tồi tệ chưa có tiền lệ. Đồng nghiệp tui model labour market sẽ không hồi phục cho đến 2022. Việc làm trong nền kinh tế sẽ chỉ hồi phục chừng 80% vào cuối 2021.

Dân Anh, dân Châu Âu thất nghiệp tràn lan, nhà hàng đóng cửa, việc làm thêm cho SV vì vậy rất thiếu.

- Uni đang chase các case engagement của international students chặt hơn rất nhiều so với trước.

Đại loại là nếu bạn ko nộp bài, không đi học, vắng mặt trong online session (chủ yếu do đi làm thêm nhiều), sẽ đều bị ghi nhận không engaged vào việc học và chuyển của UKVI để xem xét đánh giá bạn có "engaged" không. Nếu nó kết luận bạn ko engage, bạn có thể bị hủy visa.

Hồi xưa giảng viên dễ như tui có thể du di cho bạn, hoặc giảng viên khó dạy lớp đông họ không kiểm soát xuể, giờ bạn không lên học online máy nó record, khỏi chạy. Lớp offline face to face giờ split ra nhiều group, mỗi group có tí xíu người, vô cùng dễ control.

- Grad placement offer (nghĩa là các bạn tốt nghiệp ra được offer job) của năm nay được dời về năm sau rất nhiều. Nghĩa là mấy bạn tốt nghiệp năm nay, đang cầm offer đúng ra start năm nay phải đợi năm sau mới start. Ngồi chơi 1 năm.

Vì vậy head count tuyển mới nhiều công ty (cụ thể law firm, big 4 accounting và consulting) bị co lại. Bạn tốt nghiệp năm sau thì thị trường việc làm ở UK đúng là không dễ dàng.

Trong cuộc đời bạn chắc chắn sẽ có nhiều quyết định mà bạn không thể biết chắc bạn đúng hay bạn sai. Cho nên bạn suy nghĩ thiệt kỹ rồi cứ quyết. Và chuẩn bị sẵn phương án đối phó với nghịch cảnh. Rồi cứ vậy mà đi thôi, đừng nên lo sợ gì.

Lên coi livestream còn có rủi ro bị cúp điện, bỏ mất cơ hội coi thần tượng hát live thì tính cái gì rồi cũng có rủi ro là nó không như mình tính mà, nên đừng có dằn vặt bản thân.

Đến giờ tui vẫn không biết là quyết định ngày xưa không bỏ học đi làm game thủ là sai hay đúng."

Launching and running a company is no small feat, but its rewards can be huge.

A 2019 survey from London-based company SME Loans found that 64 percent of the UK workforce wants to set up a business, and a massive 83 percent of 18- to 24-year-olds dream of self-employment. Despite these high numbers, comparatively few people end up starting their own companies, and even fewer people end up running successful ones.
Many aspiring entrepreneurs have great ideas for startups, but ideas are cheap, and execution is everything. So, what are some of the key things to know before starting your own company?

1. Failure is a part of the process.
People have a tendency to focus on others' successes and overlook their failures. Remember, the lessons learned from failing to provide entrepreneurs with the necessary skills to better execute their business plans in the future.

2. Entrepreneurship can consume your life.
Remember, nothing worthwhile comes easy, and you will have to sacrifice a lot of your free time so that you can give your startup the attention it needs to thrive.

3. You will doubt yourself at times.
Doubt is a normal human emotion, especially if you've been working on your startup for a while without seeing much success. One way to overcome self-doubt is by analyzing what you've done right and what you can do better.

4. The first few years are especially challenging.
According to data from the Small Business Administration, only 50 percent of businesses with employees survive the first five years, and only a third survive 10 years or longer. These statistics are a reflection of how difficult it is to start a successful company.

5. Entrepreneurship can come with a lot of satisfaction.
Job satisfaction is priceless, and it can be a major contributing factor to a happy and fulfilled life. If you're not happy with your current job, it may be time to start thinking about pursuing that startup you've always dreamed of creating. Many of the jobs in our economy have been created by ambitious and forward-looking entrepreneurs. They had a vision and were willing to stop at nothing to execute it.

由前港督Lord Patten of Barnes同前英國外交大臣Hon Sir Malcolm Rifkind發起嘅國際聯署聲明，一個星期內由廿幾個國家嘅201個議員，依家聯署議員人數去到50國家728個議會政界人士！最壯觀不外乎係日本，不過唔該留意下嗰啲小國，例如科索沃、阿爾巴尼亞、立陶宛、斯洛伐克、緬甸等等小國，哪怕佢地得一兩個代表支持，但係以前人地國家出現問題，自問大家何曾理會過？睇完新聞下一秒就已經「哦，邊度黎㗎？」，然後食買玩揾錢唔記得...依家人地反而出黎支持...喂！簽個名有政治代價㗎，唔係應份！（本人自己都覺得有些少羞恥）
