PART 04 - Traveling around the… table - marvelous exotic food in Tainan
Everybody knows Tainan is famous for unlimited number of snacks, night markets and traditional, special Tainan foods. But, what if somehow you want to take a break from that and want to try something truly exotic? Do you need to go to the airport and fly to another country? Well, that’s an option. But, don’t worry - there’s no need to look for your passport if you’re already in Tainan. Why? Because there are lots of mouth-watering dishes waiting for you right here in Tainan. Together we can explore a few of them. So are you ready?
Option number one: How about some Indian food?
瑪哈印度餐廳Maharaja Indian Restaurant
From time to time I crave some Indian food, and Maharaja is a good option. They have decorations that transports you to an Indian Palace, they play Bollywood music videos in the background and they have a solid menu - from Indian curries, kebabs, naan (Indian bread you can soak in sauces) and also typical drinks (mango lassi, Indian spiced teas. They also have starters, for example samosas - Indian fried dumplings. The food is really good, I got my favorite dishes including: palak paneer - spinach and cottage cheese sauce, chicken tikka masala, yellow masala lamb curry, chicken kebabs and more. All these delicious dishes were nicely washed with a mango lassi - Indian style of yogurt. Gotta admit - I loved it.
Option number two: Are you craving for some good Japanese food? Great - I have an excellent place just for you.
兩斤家廚房1.2KG Kitchen
Roasted beef steak, Pork fillet, Japanese bbq beef, cheese donburi, Japanese fried chicken (the difference between Taiwanese and Japanese style is that the one from Japan is juicier, Taiwanese style is usually crispier). You can also find hot pots and other dishes at 1.2KG. I love all the dishes - especially the steak.. I am usually a bit sceptical before ordering cheese in restaurants in Taiwan, but the bbq cheese donburi was truly delicious - hands down.
Apart from the tasty dishes, the interior of the restaurant is really stylish and the ambiance is great. You can really feel that the owner put lots of effort into it. You can take lots of great shots if you bring your camera along. The decoration is a bit of a fusion between Japanese and European styles. It feels really good :)
Option number three: Would you like to try the most famous south east asian cuisine here in Tainan? Let’s go Thai then!
泰味食足A Taste of Thailand
The place is well decorated and a cute elephant statue welcomes you from the street. I am always happy to eat some Thai food, and this restaurant made me happy as well.
Usually when I go to Thai restaurants I order my favorite meals: stir-fried spicy minced beef, shrimp pancake and green curry. They also have quite a selection of seafood dishes, steamed fish and steamed shrimps. I started with green papaya salad - it’s a healthy crispy dish full of veggies and unripe papaya. Yummy! Apart from that I tried the rest and I must say all were really good - but the spicy minced beef remains my favorite. If you are in Shanhua this restaurant is definitely a place to visit!
How about some dessert?
光芒果子.小旅行 義式冰淇淋Sunny Mango Gelato
Yujing district of Tainan is mostly famous for its mangoes. But there is way more to discover in that area. Apart from the gorgeous views you can also visit Yujing Old Street. One of the highlights of that place is a real gelato shop.
What is gelato? It’s Italian word that means “frozen” but most commonly it’s known as Italian ice cream. The difference between gelato and ice cream is very subtle - basically gelato is more icy and thick, ice cream is more creamy and soft. There is quite a selection of flavors - from classic ones (fruit, chocolate) to very special flavors (Sun Moon Lake tea, Taiwan beer flavor). Also, I believe the flavors change from time to time, so each time you come you can get some surprises. My favorite gelato was passion fruit, mango and sesame. But let’s be honest - everybody likes a different flavor, so the only way to find out which is your favorite is…. going to Sunny Mango Gelato!
Feel free to ask any questions that you have, feel free to share and tag friends that haven’t been to Tainan before or recently, and need to go there with you and… and…. and make sure you stay tuned because there are more stories coming soon!

*LONG POST - Mummies talk!*
If you don’t have kids i’m pretty sure you’ll wanna skip this haha ok so i’m gonna share regarding this ‘Food Cube Tray’.
Not gonna lie, mula2 Ivanna start mkn solid food when she was 6 months old, betul2 rasa tertipu! I thought it will be easier lepas dia start mkn, apparently it turned out to be the other way. Punya lah malas / penat / remeh, the first month was the time where i wished Ivanna boleh teruskan 100% minum susu je 😩 Cuz i find feeding her 3x a day and picking this / that food is super remeh. Milk was much easier, one flavour & one way, habis cite.
So yeah after some time i got used to it but i wanna share bout how this Food Cube Tray buat jadi extra rajin than how i felt before, hopefully this will help some mummies yg baru nak start bagi their baby mkn solid food too! ❤️
Awal2 time Ivanna dah start mkn porridge i used to feed her the same food everyday but its true what people say, kesian baby tu mkn the same thing tapi tu la when you wanna find something else everything becomes extra and ughh too many stuff and it takes so much effort bla bla bla sampaaaaai la the day i started using this food cube tray then terus jadi semangat & rajin!
I love how it has 6 holes (so 6 portions), i don’t do porridge in here but i focus more on healthy snacks such as fresh fruits (example in these photos) / oat / agar2 / bubur chacha kinda thing. Ivanna will have her snacks time once a day (recently je sometimes twice a day). Siap je blend everything then i’ll keep them in this food cube tray and i get to use it 6x.
How to explain apa yg best ahhh 😅 Its the material that Petit Label is using, how you can push 1 portion keluar terpelanting mcm tu saja, then keep the rest balik dlm freezer, the cute designs yg ada at the back, saves time sbb you only need to do one time, and best sbb I have started to do more food experiments for Ivanna since ada this food cube tray kot.
Photos above is how i do this wintermelon & blueberries today, next time I’ll share on other recipes pulak! I can talk until tmrow so i better stop now, will post more on my stories!

Do you make lunchboxes for your children’s meals at school? It’s great to be able to pack something healthy for them. I try to pack them a rubbish-free lunchbox. For snacks, instead of buying the small individually wrapped packets, I get the big pack and pour that day’s portion into their lunchbox or container for them. For example, I buy the big tub of yoghurt and spoon a few spoonfuls into a smaller container for them to bring to school. Let’s be as environmentally friendly as possible, and doing away with unnecessary packaging is a big step towards that. #Buds #budsorgsnics #baby #toddler #child #kids #bath #skincare #organic #eco #green #pink #parenthood #motherhood #mum #play #playtime #outdoors #bath #poralcare #eczema #babyproducts #babyfair #tce #cute #soft #lovely

[10 REASONS WHY ASIANS DON'T GET FAT]
Now of course, there are Asians who are fat or chubby, so the title is a bit of a generalized statement or stereotype, but as a whole, there's definitely some truth to it. Genetics is an obvious factor so I'm gonna leave that one off the list.
1. Fish & Seafood
Asians eat a lot of seafood. The biggest benefit to eating fish is the omega-3 fatty acids. Fish gives our brain and body the DHA & EPA it needs. EPA in particular has been shown to prevent obesity. 1.5 to 2 grams daily of fish oil can produce weight loss of a couple pounds over a period of a month.
2. Cooking Methods
If you compare Western and Asian eating habits, sure they both consume deep fried foods, but Asian countries vary their cooking methods a lot more.
3. Food Perception
How people see and experience food can be different depending on where you are. In America, for example, food is seen more as entertainment. There is desire, joy and anticipation associated with eating. Not that it isn't in Asian countries, but it's a lot more toned down. Eating has more of a practical feel, in many cases closer to being a chore rather than entertainment.
4. Portion Size
Asians eat smaller portions. Food is often served in small serving bowls and small plates and this helps regulate how much is consumed in one sitting. Now if we take a look at America? SUPERSIZE!
5. Leafy Greens
Asian portion size in general might be smaller, but their vegetable portion size is consistently larger. In many Asian countries, people don't even need to be reminded to eat their veg. It's just ingrained.
6. Drink Habits
It is a common belief that drinking water, especially cold water, with your meal is a habit that one should avoid, as it dilutes your digestive enzymes and makes it harder for your stomach to digest food. Americans often drink cold water or sodas with their meals, not so much for Asian people however. Rather they drink hot teas before or after a meal. I should note that many experts say this is greatly exaggerated and that it's generally ok to drink water with your meals.
7. Population Density
Many Asian countries & cities are densely populated. There are lots of people living in small apartments and almost everything you need is just round the corner. Leading one to possibly conclude that many Asian people must exert less energy in their daily lives. In actuality, Asian people in this circumstance may end up walking more. With everything being in close proximity, they are more inclined to just walk to their destination, whereas in many Western countries, distances are often too great.
8. Fermented Foods
Asians consume more fermented foods such as miso, natto, tempeh, kimchi, kombucha, etc, and this is not just good for your gut health, but helps reduce the overall inflammation in the body. And inflammation is a contributing factor to weight gain and obesity.
9. Snacks & Desserts
This one's quite simple. Asian snacks, healthy, Western snacks, not so much. Asian snacks and desserts may be rice cakes, red beans, seaweed snacks, nuts, seeds, and lots of fruit. For Western snacks and desserts, you have cookies, chips, ice cream, sugary cakes.
10. Prevention vs Treatment
Asians practice prevention, while others practice treatment. With the Western approach, you have your antibiotics, antacids, NSAIDs, quick, temporary, remedies that might actually hurt you in the long run. The Asian approach attempts to get to the root of the problem using nutrition, healthy habits, prevention practices. It's a societal mindset. Health is not simply the absence of sickness.
