小人物上籃常常提到，籃球產業 (basketball industry) 涵蓋遠大於籃球場上所發生的事情。
籃球運動能夠帶動周邊的專業能力，不僅是直覺上可以想像到的: 訓練師，運動醫學，運動科學，運動科技等科學科技產業；當然也涵蓋了如 EA Sports, Electronic Arts, 設計，以及之前提過的插畫產業。
